Thread: Nightmate Match

Hey all, I've been experimenting with standard browser layouts and created a horror-themed memory matching cards game called Nightmate Match. It runs completely in plain JavaScript and CSS.

The rules are standard: flip 2 cards to find matching pairs. I drew 8 unique pixelated occult symbols (bleeding eyes, hanging ropes, tombstones, skulls). The cool part is that the game's atmosphere escalates the more pairs you match. It spawns blood-red mist particles, shakes the board, flashes dark messages, and has a pretty crazy glitch jumpscare when you match the final pair!

I also synthesized all sound waves procedurally using the Web Audio API (wooden clicks on flips, drone pitches dropping, high-pitched screech chimes) so it doesn't need to load any heavy sound files.

Here is a screenshot of the grid:

Let me know if you can survive the final match! What was your best move count?

Played it. That 3D card flipping transition is really clean and runs super smooth on my old browser.

And the final win screech scared the crap out of me lol. Nice work, GraveCoder! Got 18 moves on my second try.

Interesting. You built the particle mist using standard 2D canvas overlay layered on top of a CSS grid. Very smart combination of DOM rendering and canvas scripting.

The procedural heartbeats are also really cool, it makes matching pairs under pressure feel super intense. Solid math on the particle dynamics.
