found a strange file called birdflap_beta while digging through a Dutch freeware mirror for old Crazy Chicken fan maps. there is no readme, author name, company field, or proper installer. the file stamp says March 2003.

it starts as a cheap one-button flying game. space or mouse makes the yellow bird hop, then you squeeze between green tubes for points. the menu is ugly and the bird drops fast, but i kept retrying it.

something changes after a few tubes. i thought it was a palette bug at first. get past 4 before replying, and turn the sound down if you are using headphones.

the archive scanned clean here and runs without installing anything, but it is still unknown freeware. i mirrored the exact copy below. does anybody recognize it, and how far does the change actually go?

score 7. the green went brown around 4 and i assumed my palette was broken.

made 11. the clouds get eyes. that is definitely in the game, not a bad screenshot.

not an official Moorhuhn release. no company info, no proper credits, and the tiny sound effects look home-made. i cannot identify the compiler either.

the eyes in the tubes follow the bird at 8. i stopped looking at them and immediately played better.

score 16. restart is quick, which is good because the mouths are distracting.

the pipe openings grow teeth at 13. still only one button, no bonuses or extra lives.

sound button works. leave it off after 20 unless you enjoy a bass buzz through cheap desktop speakers.

replaced the mirror link with the untouched copy again after somebody asked. same checksum and March timestamp. there is no later version hiding here.

reached 24. the pipes move like separate animals and the floor has feelers. it does not just recolor them.

score 27. the next opening never jumps all the way across the screen, so watching the gap instead of the eyes helps.

30 changes the bird too. i will not describe it. score 36 and then one of the mouths closed on me.

calling this solved unless someone finds an author. highest posted score is 36. please stop mailing me pictures of the pipes.

hit 42 after two hours of practice. the background pulse syncs with the flap sound. creepy as hell.

analyzed the audio buffer in Sound Forge. it is raw 8-bit PCM synth waveforms, not sample clips.

whoever coded this had some serious issues. why make an innocent bird game mutate like a Cronenberg film?

score 47! at 40 the pipes literally breathe in and out. my girlfriend walked into the room and told me to turn it off.

new high score: 53. the title screen glitching on reload is a genius touch.

tried decompiling the bytecode. strings are stripped completely. pure anonymous freeware artifact.

easily the creepiest thing shared on Nyx Modding this year. thanks for archiving it ToastedRAM.
